Rutgers University researchers, the U.S. found that when it reaches the peak of sexualarousal, the nervous system is changed so that women do not feel any pain, butpleasure.
Orgasms affect up to 30 different parts of the female brains, including those responsiblefor emotion, touch, satisfaction, and memory.
In the study, researchers asked eight women stimulating themselves under an MRI scanis commonly used to detect brain tumors. Most women take less than five minutes toreach orgasm, while others take up to 20 minutes.
During that time, an MRI scan of the brain take pictures every two seconds to show the most active parts of the brain during orgasm. The scientists discovered, two minutesbefore orgasm, the brain centers controlling the satisfaction associated with eating anddrinking is activated.
Immediately before they reach the climax, the other affected parts of the brain such asthe sensory cortex that receives 'touch', and pass through the thalamus to all parts of the body.
The final part of the brain will be activated is the hypothalamus, or part of the brain that regulates temperature, hunger, thirst and fatigue. At the same time part of the brainactive is a regulator of emotions. "In women, orgasm is generating a huge response in the brain and body," said Barry Komisaruk of Rutgers University told the Daily Mail.
"Some women raise their hands several times each session, and often only a fewseconds later."
These studies show women tend to reach orgasm is longer and can experience a rapidturnover. An average woman reaches orgasm for 10-15 seconds, while a manestimated to be only six seconds.
